A commitment subscription is a contract: the student agrees to pay every month for several months, with no cancellation before the end. For that commitment to hold, the student must have read and accepted your terms of sale. The app therefore refuses to create a commitment product until terms are published.
1. Why terms are required
Without active terms, no student can subscribe to a commitment product, and the product form blocks you with “Creation blocked: missing terms”. Products without commitment (open monthly, class pack, one-time payment) do not need them.
For now, a single set of terms can be active per academy: it applies to all your commitment products. If you have none yet, the screen shows “No terms published” and the Create terms button.
2. Write from the template
Open the Committed subscription terms card. The editor offers a template provided for guidance: commitment length, direct debit rules, cancellation, withdrawal. Replace every element in square brackets with your own information.
The Title is what the student sees at checkout. The Terms text is written in markdown: the Preview toggle shows the final rendering. As long as one element stays in brackets, publishing is refused: “Complete or remove every element in brackets before publishing”.
The template is a starting point, not legal advice. Your academy is solely responsible for its terms. Have them reviewed if in doubt.
3. Publish and version
The Publish terms button makes the version active immediately. Every later save publishes a new version, with Publish a new version: there is no draft.
The version history keeps every publication with its date. The version number is shown on the product form (“Terms already published, version 11”) and on every subscription taken. A student committed under version 10 stays bound to version 10, even if you publish version 11 afterwards.
4. What the student sees
When paying for a commitment product, the student sees a Mandatory terms card with the Read the terms button, which opens the text with its version and publication date. They must tick “I have read and accept the academy’s terms for this commitment subscription” before continuing.
That acceptance is recorded in their subscription details, in the Terms accepted block: acceptance date, version, monthly amount accepted, total committed amount accepted and waiver of the withdrawal period. That is what covers you in case of a dispute.
If a student disputes their commitment
Open their subscription from your active subscriptions and read the Terms accepted block: it shows exactly what they accepted, when, and for which amount. Also check that the accepted version did contain the clause in question, in the version history.
