At sign-up, a student rarely pays only the membership: there is the licence, the registration fee, sometimes a gi. Add-ons attach these items to a membership product. The student adds them to the cart when paying, and everything goes on a single invoice.
The shop is an optional module: items live in your shop catalog, even if you sell nothing else.
1. Create the item in the shop
First create the item among your shop products: a name, a price, a VAT rate. For a registration fee or a licence, set Size and Color to “None”, there is no variant to choose.
Tick Hide from shop catalog if the item should only be offered with a membership. A registration fee has no business sitting on the shelf next to the rashguards.
2. Offer the item with a membership
Open the membership product, then its Add-ons tab. Turn on Offer items with this subscription and pick the items.
The student sees these items when paying for the membership, not before. They can add them or leave them out.
3. Make an item mandatory
For each offered item, the Required option prevents the student from subscribing without it. That is the setting for the registration fee and the licence: nobody slips through, and you stop chasing people.
Leave comfort items, gi or belt, optional.
4. Sync with Stripe
An item was just added or changed? The Sync button sends it to Stripe. Until that is done, it stays invisible to members, even if it is in the list.
Make it a habit after every price change.
5. Limits to know
Add-ons are offered on a recurring membership or on a product paid in installments. On a one-off product paid in a single payment, the setup is saved but not yet offered to the student.
An item is not eligible if it is a personal sale (outside the academy’s accounting), if card payment is disabled on it, or if it belongs to a different legal entity than the membership. In those cases, the tab tells you the reason.
If the student does not see the item
Three checks, in order: the item is synced with Stripe, the switch in the Add-ons tab is on, and the product it is attached to is a recurring or installment membership.
